Akram Kahn in cooperation with National Ballet of China
On Wednesday 31 March, Akram Khan and the National Ballet of China will appear at the Lucent Danstheater with the acclaimed performance Bahok. In this performance the audience is taken on a journey through various dance styles into our high-speed world.
Preceding this Holland Dance Event, a workshop will be given on Tuesday 30 March by dancer Shanell Winlock. Shanell was born in South Africa, she received her training in Johannesburg and has worked with many different choreographers. Shanell has been working with Akram Khan since 2002, and has since become one of the leading dancers there. She has performed in works such as MA, Kaash, and Related Rocks.
Bahok will be the featured work in the one-and-a-half hour workshop in which various movement phrases from the performance will be used as material. Khan’s modern style is based on the Indian Kathak, a narrative dance style with movement elements such as footwork on rhythmic series and hand gestures. The workshop is suitable for experienced/semi-professional modern dancers.
